This site, maintained by Gillian Spraggs, is intended to accompany her book "Outlaws and Highwaymen. The Cult of the Robber in England from the Middle Ages to the Nineteenth Century", published in 2001 (ISBN: 0712664793). The website contains various texts as street ballads, songs, extracts from pamphlet 'lives', 'merry tales', underworld exposés, satires and letters to illustrate the history of the English highwaymen. Each text is provided with annotations and a short description of the historical context concerning its composition. Furthermore the site includes a bibliography and a number of links to other sites related to the topic.
